How to have Mental and Emotional Breakthoughs

I had that know the one....the painful one...when you look around and assess your life and realize that not much is going all that well.

I took a step back to assess what really is the most important to me and to truly prioritize my life. Before I did that it was HUSTLE, HUSTLE, HUSTLE until you just can't HUSTLE no more! The only thing that does is create busyness and being busy doesn't mean you're fulfilled, or productive and it certainly is the fast track to burn out and depression!

So what turned it around? Personal development

Let's face it when all the successful and wealthy people you know or have even heard of are always saying "The Key" is personal development you need to be open and vulnerable enough to say, OK, lets buy some books!

I got a subscription to audio books and I have been taking every opportunity to listen. I have very quickly read

1. Girl Boss
2.  Awaken the Giant Within
3. Giant Steps
4. The 4 Hour Workweek
5. Go for NO
6.  Tribes
7. Go Pro

When you realize that you have to do EVERYTHING differently in your life in order to start the process of changing everything. The to do list gets very clear....Start with your thinking so that you can

The next book (I physically own this one) is called "Push" by Chalene Johnson

I am going to take my time with this book and actually finish it. I have "started it"...ya know how that goes over ten times.

If you have any recommendations on books, please comment below.

How to Develop More Confidence

1. Stop comparing. Stay focused on you.

2. Relax, go with the flow and know that the little things that stress you out do not define your worth or value.

3. Love yourself. You are a gift. Nothing would be the same if you did not exist.

4. Do what you love. If you don't do what you love, keep your eyes,
ears and heart open to the TRUTH that you can do what you love. You will start seeing opportunities you never thought existed.

5. It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not.

6. Understand that you have a warped view of yourself in moments of insecurity. Ask God to rewire your mind and focus on the truths of people who trust, not the lies of those who don't matter..

7. If you live off of man's compliments you will die from his criticisms.

8. At the end of each day, write down something that you did well in a journal and reflect on the entries from previous days. Own it.

9.  Write down a list of ten affirmations...make them wild and daring! Say it with 100% belief

10.  Remember the law of attraction in all things. You need to imagine and feel the feelings like its already happened.

Bonus Tip---Take Massive Action in the direction of your set goals

*You have to believe in yourself first...before anyone else will*

Rewards for reaching your goal

Every little step you make towards reaching your goals

is a SUCCESS! No one expects you to dive right in and

be perfect! You never will be.

Everyone has a different story, a different journey, a different pace. So don't compare yourself to them. Only compete with YOURSELF. Focus on being better than you were yesterday.

REWARD YOURSELF for every success, big or small, that you make toward reaching your goal! This can be with anything ~ Fitness, your Career, Relationships, Personal Development, etc.

Here's one example of how to track your successes and reward yourself for your hard work and dedication!

What other way do you know of to reward yourself for your Successes?!? I'm always looking for new ideas

How do you define success?

Quick.. What do you imagine when you close your eyes and see yourself as successful (based on YOUR definition)

How do you define success? No judgment... No wrong answer. When you think of where you would need to be in order to feel that you could call yourself successful, where would that be? What would you need in order to truly FEEL successful?

defining success, becoming your personal best, encourage mint

Is there a dollar amount, a level of income associated with your definition? Does your definition have something to do with your title or recognition? Your impact on the world? Power? Influence? Toys? Relationships? Investments?

For me, I thought it might be having a home and a high rank within a large corporation, but I've come to believe those things have nothing to do with success. I used to believe that it was my ability to earn money and do the things I wanted to do for others and myself that defined success. Yes, money does make some things, many things easier, including helping those in need, but it didn't make me feel like I was "successful" because honestly, I really couldn't stop the cycle of work = earnings = taking care of people = my value (for many years)...

Being able to pay for things for other people might have at times relieved temporary discomfort, but what really made me feel good was when I could teach someone something that changed their life.

In just the last several years I have dramatically redefined what it means to be successful. It's multifaceted for me now, but much of it revolves around teaching, sharing and coaching. For me success is the confidence to know I don't need people to know my name. Success is an unwavering belief in God's plan and being in a place mentally, financially, spiritually and professionally that I can help others in all the right ways, for all the right reasons... and that doesn't always have a dollar sign attached.

When I help someone make the climb (on their own) I have given him or her, a much more rewarding gift than money could buy.

That's my definition. I suppose it will change as I get older and life takes its interesting turns... but that's where I'm at today.

How about you?

First close your eyes... give this some thought and share with me your definition of success.

Thanks for reading!

How To Build More Confidence

We can plan and schedule all day long, but if we don't actually TAKE any meaningful action, nothing in our lives will change.

Maybe you are waiting until you feel 100% sure that the action you want to take is the right thing to do, or that it will all work out okay.

TRUTH: we're not guaranteed anything will turn out as we planned.

We can truly ONLY control our attitude and how we respond to the situation.

ACTION: Do the best you can at researching your decision, but at the end of the day, you gotta make a decision!

ACTION: Go for it and just promise yourself that this is just your first attempt. It won't be your best. It won't be perfect, but you're going to go for it!

ACTION: Make a list of the worst case scenario if you "did" this thing and the BEST case scenario. Does the BEST case scenario get you excited? Then go for it!

ACTION: Confidence comes with experience. Experience is what happens when we have fear and we do it anyways. Confidence comes only after we "really sucked at it" the first 10 x but by the 11th we were feeling pretty darn good about it!

ACTION: Tell someone you're going to GO FOR IT! (hint: tell us what you're going to do that is kinda scary at the moment)

Help build someone's confidence today and share this blog post with them! Better yet, encourage someone who leaves a comment here!

Take Massive Action in your life!

The Importance of Self Talk ...a lesson learned from Robin Williams passing

Be aware of just how dangerous and fragile you're self talk is, and can be.

It's those whispers that you say to yourself in quiet, lonely moments. Stuff that I'm sure you would never ever share with even your closest best friend.

We are all too ashamed to admit how many different times in our lives that we have thought those kind of thoughts like:

The world will go on without me. I should just cash in my chips. I can't believe I'm this old and faced with having to rebuild my entire life. I have no prospects. I am going to die alone because I can't seem to find a good person to date. This isn't how I thought my life would go.

Or, and this is a line from one of my favorite movies "Spaceballs",  "Why didn't someone tell me my ass was this big"

As Author J. K. Rowling said, "Rock bottom is the solid foundation in which I rebuilt my life."

Your brain is a computer and you need to start the rebooting/reprograming ASAP.

Be honest with yourself about what is and what isn't working in your life.

1. Start with writing down a list of positive affirmations to say every single day.
2. Create a vision board of what and where you want your life to be a year from now.
3. Mediate and visualize yourself achieving these things daily.
4. Reverse engineer your priorities and goals to get the how to list on making that happen

It takes courage to be vulnerable. It also takes massive courage to change.

I recommend several books:

Daring Greatly by Brene Brown
Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins
Push by Chalene Johnson

You can do this! We all need to do this! Oh, and another thing, Pray...Pray every night for strength and wisdom. Turn your worries over to him, you won't regret it.

It's not just about rehabing your body, it's also about reprogramming your brain and your emotional makeup to become a better version of yourself.

Oh Captain, My Captain...thank you for the life lesson Mr. Williams. You were my generations Bob Hope.

I love Pancake's and Starbucks..but....

So....yeah....I used to really really love pancakes. You know those ones from McDonalds that have about 1000 calories in one serving? Also a good Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino . Love love love them!  They are one of the reasons I had gained a bunch of weight.

When I decided I was going to make some changes to my eating habits, I was really concerned about giving up my pancakes and the cost of Shakeology. I think a lot of people are (at least about the Shakeology part). When you purchase Shakeology, you receive a supply to last you an entire month. A MONTH OF MEALS! And I was sitting there wondering if it was a good investment or not. However, I wasn't used to budgeting for an entire month of meals up front.  I was too busy dropping little bits here and there every day.

Becoming Your Personal Best, Shakeology, Love the shakes

The month I started using Shakeology I decided to compare what I was spending to what I had spent before. I reviewed my bank account, looked at receipts, and made a list to see the exact damage. I was sure I would convince myself Shakeology was too expensive to continue, even with the coach discount of 25%.

I was crazy WRONG.

I quickly realized I was blowing a lot of money on breakfasts and coffees. A coffee at Starbucks every day, swinging by McDonalds to get those pancakes a couple times a week, plus all of the groceries I was buying. Plus I was totally treating myself to a Papa John's Pizza at least 3 times a month. Seriously you really you have "issues" when the pizza delivery guys all know you by first I was Norm on Cheers or something. Remember in every episode when Norm would enter the bar it was a loud NORM. Yeah, like omg, so not good.  It all ended up totaling $175 a month. Yikes! I won't even mention the health factor of inhaling such garbage every morning and on the weekends. And I felt that I was just giving myself little treats and not really being all that bad, Yikes river of denial, party of one!!!!

Numbers don't lie. I save myself a lot of money replacing one meal with my shake. Don't get me wrong, I still allow myself one fancy pants coffee from Starbucks once a month, and I will still make pancakes every now and again.  I'm getting much smarter about my food choices these days, and I'm happy about that. Not only am I getting the nutrients my body was previously lacking, but I am increasing my energy and saving myself a whole lot of money in the process.

And you know where that money can go, right? Geek toys and shopping at Sephora (I swear that place is like Harry Potter's Chemistry Shop)
